The Death of Vivek Oji by Akwaeke Emezi

5.0

“I often wonder if I died in the best possible way—in the arms of the one who loved me the most, wearing a skin that was true.”

Best book I've read this year and I know Akwaeke Emezi just officially became my favorite author. Everything about The Death of Vivek Oji is painful yet perfect at the same time. This book is more about people around Vivek, with a glimpse of childhood memories and a coming-of-age story. The characters are alive and they have their roles to play as well as the weight they need to hold after Vivek's death.

I can't help but comparing the writing to [b:Pet|38612739|Pet|Akwaeke Emezi|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1550603866l/38612739._SY75_.jpg|60224408], but Akwaeke Emezi's writing is so astonishing. Their rich description of scenery, of the pain the characters felt, of Vivek. Akwaeke Emezi is a mastermind of creating realistic scenes that will make their readers shed tears.

Not a single cons for this book. It's just perfection.
