A book about found family, queerness, abolition, and grief at its best! When I bought this book I definitely expected more of a sci fi (maybe even thriller) type of book, but the sci fi element was really just a catalyst for a beautifully meandery piece of literary fiction. This is for lovers of Our Wives Under the Sea and Her Body and Other Parties, the tone was dark but also very funny, the relationship between Kris and her kid was the wonderfully messy heart of this story. I do think this book could have done without the “pop quizzes” and found the way the kid spoke a little unrealistic, but I was so overwhelmingly charmed by this story that those pieces worked. Love love loved this book, I can’t wait to read more of Crane’s work.
