Redeemed by Kristin Cast, P.C. Cast

Decent end to the full series but left some things to be desired.

*Spoilers*

The final book in the House of Night series delivers some terrifying moments and actions by Neferet; she's unrepentant in her evil and deliciously so. But this fails to deliver in the final "battle" scene which wraps up far too quickly after the entire book builds to that point and after so many deaths and after so much discussion about how to find Neferet's "achille's heel" or the one bit of love that can be used to turn her from darkness but instead they just kinda cram her into a grotto and Aurox seals her in. There's quite a bit of death and even a bit of gore but the final show-down was a let-down.

Overall it was a mostly-satisfying conclusion to many of the plot threads except that, again, Neferet's end was really a rather short and lack-luster scene that really needed something more. It was an entire series that built to this moment and it lasted about 2 pages and was over so quickly that I felt cheated; especially with no final thoughts or words from this quintessential evil character so that was a disappointment.

Kalona's redemption ended up being much of the main thrust of the book this time and after so many books the "oomph" of his return to Nyx wasn't as powerful for me as it could have been earlier.

The full series was a LOT going on in a VERY short time. There are some amazing and complex characters (Stevie Rae, Aphrodite, Stark) and others who are clearly not very well developed over the books. Some of the stories were really engaging, others just plot-points to push through until the next good bit. It was a fun ride but not a "You HAVE to read these!" sort of ride. I enjoyed them and would recommend them as a tasty-enough bit of brain candy if you enjoy the idea of vamps but want to more focus on the idea of Magic circles and teen drama than on biting, blood, vamp politics and such staple tropes of vamp stories.
