I wish I had a better explanation, I just wasn't finding myself settling into the book. I may give it a try again in the future, but I believe the writing style just wasn't for me. I also would recommend looking up trigger warnings before reading, because the book itself has none. I've included my own content warnings, but there may be more as you read further.
