If I Stay by Gayle Forman

5.0

How did it take so long for me to hear about this book?

I saw the preview of the film version of the book, and my friend leaned over in the theater to say, “Buy and read this one right now, if you haven’t already.” I ordered it on Kindle on my phone before the preview was over.

I didn’t just read it, I drank it. Mia’s voice was so clear, so steady, despite the horrific thing that happens, and the decision she has to make. Her present and past feel rich and real, the weight and sway of her time figuring out what to do felt natural and true. By the time I ended the novel, I felt like I knew Mia, as if she was a real girl from my own life, and I can’t stop thinking about her.

So beautifully done, I purchased Gayle Forman’s other YA novel within minutes of finishing this one. What a storyteller.
