Spark of the Everflame by Penn Cole

I picked this up because the romantasy mood struck, as it does. However, I wouldn’t even categorise it as that. I’d say it’s more of a fantasy book with a romance plot. There was so much more world building and politics than I had expected and although they weren’t complex or particularly original, I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
I really liked Diem’s character, she reminded me of an SJM FMC and her attitude towards Luther is everything I want from a romance. We didn’t get to know Luther, but this made for a really great slow burn that I’m pretty confident will increase throughout the series.
The ending was completely out of the blue, but it has me picking up the sequel immediately so the author is obviously doing something right.
