Marilynne Robinson's writing is art. It is beautiful always, although I would say it is less obviously so in this book than in Housekeeping & Gilead. And by that I mean I didn't notice it as much as I was reading as I did in the other 2 books.

I was a bit reluctant to read this book since I knew it was going to be sad, but it really wasn't sad throughout. I did cry in parts; it was heartbreaking. It is a slow, graceful book. I loved it.
