The Knockout by Bella Matthews

5.0

As soon as Bella Matthews teased this good girl x bad boy romance, I was all in. I started this book one evening thinking I would read a few chapters and instead stayed up late, finishing early the next morning!

We are never just what people assume about us and Grace & Ares' story highlights this. Quiet, beloved Grace appears to have it all -- a successful ballet career with a large circle of loving family and friends. With her kind heart, she puts everyone's needs before her own and focuses on never disappointing anyone. But what if there are all kinds of cracks in her facade? What happens when someone looks deeply at Grace and doesn't assume anything?

"He just forced his way in and refused to leave. Refused to let me keep hurting."

Professional hockey player Ares, god of war, is known as a fighter on and off the ice. He also leans into his playboy image and gets lost in the shadow of his older brother, Cross. Ares is so much more than what people assume about him. He's caring, generous, supportive, and protective. These Wilder brothers will make you swoon!!! Ares fell first, and he fell hard! He was there for Grace, always in her corner giving her the support she needed to solve her problems.

I really enjoyed both Grace and Ares' families in this book. The Wilders are the perfect addition to the Sinclair/Kingston/Beneventi extended family. I loved the interactions between Declan, Grace's dad, and Ares! And, Papa Wilder is once again on the ready with sage advice.

I couldn't love this emotional story of learning to love yourself before you can love someone else more!
