I started this book as a hater, after having read the first one, and kept trying to be one. But I can’t act like this book did not have me in a chokehold. 
The relationship that the main character has with this new guy felt way more realistic than the one she has in the first book, maybe because it’s a slow burn. I even enjoyed the main character more. Some of the chapters were soooo stressful and by the end of the book I had to take breaks because of how scared I was for the ending. But if I really think about the book critically, there are still quite a few things that make this book a bit silly:

- the new love interest is one of the main bad guys of the first book. And while I will gladly believe the reasons they give as to why he had to act that way, it did feel a bit like they were climbing on windows to sanctify the guy. But as I had previously mentioned I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers trope so I’ll just cloud my judgement when reading the serie.

- THESE PEOPLE HAVE CRAZY PLOT ARMOR?!?!? The amount of times I was ready to wish farewell to some of the main characters, but they always find a way to come out of the worst situations?!? This makes the book feel unserious to me. But maybe I’m biased by the fact that the last fantasy work I was in contact with was Game of thrones.

- this is just a personal ick but can they please stop calling each other “mates” 😭😭

- the new relationship that is unveiled at the end makes me think the following books will be very repetitive

- I ask once more…. WHERE ARE THE GAYSSSSS. You can’t make me sit through pages and pages of heterosexual SMUT (like S M U T) just for the ending to unveil two new straight couples. PLEASE DONT MAKE MOR BE STRAIIIIIGHT
