The Lily of the Field and the Bird of the Air: Three Godly Discourses by Søren Kierkegaard, Søren Kierkegaard
5.0
The Lily of the Field and the Bird of the Air by one of my favorite writers, the philosopher Soren Kierkegaard, is a Christian disquisition of Matthew 6:24-34, known as Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. A small book (90 pages, plus the introduction) of earnest treasures. In three sections, Kierkegaard discusses respectively each one of these values— Silence, Obedience, and Joy— in terms of nature's attitude and faith, particularly the bird's and the lily's, towards God's will, sovereignty, and care.
"[...] we might from the lily and the bird learn silence, obedience, joy!"
(Kierkegaard, 5).
Certainly, I still have a lot to learn.
"[...] unconditional joy: in Worshipping, to dare to believe 'that God cares for you.'" (Kierkegaard, 86).
