The audiobook is beautifully read by David Tennant, it is a fun, easy listen, with a warm hug of a story at its heart.

The book is very different from the movie, so for those looking for the same story in written format, be prepared for a very different Berk. Would I recommend this for children now? Not really, there is a distinct lack of female characters, the only women mentioned are Hiccup's mother (she has one line at the end of the book) and one of the dragons (who is a snob). This book reinforces gender divides and while I appreciate it was written for young boys, we should not be limiting boys to just reading about boy heroes. If you are going to let your kids read, then you'll probably also want to sit down and explain that Viking women were an important part of their society and what reasons the author may have had for excluding them from this book.
