When it comes to non-fiction books I don't feel it's fair to give a review based on the content or subject matter or the experiences of a person (if it's that kind of book).
But I do feel here that I need to praise Chanel Miller for telling her story and for telling it so well.
While there are large pieces I cannot relate to, I still feel heard and find comfort in what she has written. Her voice really comes through in this, in a way that is deeply personal and vulnerable which I appreciate because it didn't need that to still be a good book.
You feel just how much she has put into this and the writing is in such a way that it flows so well. I feel that this is an essential book and I hope that it continues to spark conversation about rape culture when people do read it.
