I love reading memoirs is when at the end I feel like the author is an old friend. Mattoo's experience is unique but universal. I didn’t experience the things she did in my slow homecoming to America as a child of immigrants, but I did have many of the same feelings. I continue to have many of the same feelings. My husband can also drive through his old neighborhood and point to milestone landmarks. Meanwhile, I sort of have that but not in the same way. I don’t feel completely comfortable in my “hometown” although I do still claim it. Even though I came there late and didn’t find a place there. Anyway, that’s how good this book is, I’m over here framing my whole life.
I borrowed this from Libby when I found that my library had no physical copy. It is now my mission to have my library buy a physical copy.
