WOAH! This book was pretty damn dark and I loved it! I strongly encourage checking out the TW/CW for this one if that’s your norm to avoid sensitive subjects. Be kind to yourself. <3

Now let’s get into it! I’m a glutton for punishment, I almost never read the TW/CWs and don’t usually read too much of the book synopsis to avoid any spoilers. Especially when the books are written by some of my favorite authors, looking at you Lauren - I’ve been hooked since Captured.

This book starts out with a BANG, right away I was hooked reading about Kane and his…”hobby”. You learn right away that Kane is not a good man, not even remotely. Then cue Aurora, our MFC who has enough snark to handle anything she encounters, or so she thinks. When she’s faced with the change of the man she enters the truck with, the same man who goes from a gentle caring lover, to a sexual deviant, to a brutally callous predator Aurora doesn’t know what to do.

One of my favorite things about this book was the psychology within it! This was a first for me reading a dark romance with Dissociative Identity Disorder and I thoroughly enjoyed it! It was fascinating to see each identity come forward. Lauren did such a great job at describing each alter that often just reading about a touch you could figure out which personality was in control.

“Trauma recognizes trauma. You aren’t fragmented the same way we are, but you’re just as broken.”

Lauren writes in a way that shines a light on each character's horrific story, showing their flaws, fears, and deep dark secrets while keeping the story action packed. The way she describes mental illness in this book really brings you into the pages and pulls at your heartstrings during some of the retellings of the worst days in their lives.

This book was DARK, action packed, steamy, emotional, funny, and heartwarming (I know I wasn’t expecting that last one either). It was like a rollercoaster of emotions reading this. You could tell that Lauren did her research with the mental illness portrayed in this book, which speaks to the caliber of author she is.

In the eloquent words of Tobin, “Cry for me…I like your tears so much that I inked them into my fucking skin.” By the end of this book you might just be…

To my fellow audiobook lovers - I’m almost exclusively an audiobook listener, but this was worth the read!! I couldn’t put it down!

Thank you to BookSirens and Lauren Biel for the opportunity to read and review!
