We Were the Universe by Kimberly King Parsons

4.0

Kit, a young mother to an effervescent daughter and wife to a loving husband, is struggling to hold it together after the death of her sister. She alternates between cherishing her current life and reminiscing on the wild days of her youth. We Were the Universe is a heart-wrenching and terribly funny exploration of grief, desire, marriage, motherhood, and sisterhood. Kit is a messy and relatable main character who is so fully formed she could jump off of the page. I loved spending time with her as she fought to keep her sense of self while striving to become the parent her and her sister needed as children.
