"I am a clock stuck at midnight."

That was very exciting and spooky and dramatic!
Lady Agatha's parents are dead and her evil cousin inherits the estate and sends her to live with a goose farmer. Agatha has a very Austen view of a cottage with only seven rooms not even qualifying as a house!
There are ghosts and secrets and many a near death experience as Agatha searches for the truth of who she really is. The bad guys are super evil which I enjoyed and the sexton reminded me of the evil priest in Jamaica Inn, the setting is also very du Maurier. Agatha is very stiff upper lip, but in a kick-ass save the day kind of way rather than an emotionally stunted posh people way. I liked her and her character development through the book. It was very much a bildungsroman where the characters grow into themselves.
Susan the goose was also an utter legend! This and Fly by Night by Frances Hardinge have made me want a goose for a sidekick!
