Intermezzo by Sally Rooney

4.0

I’m in love with how bluntly real Rooney’s writing is. Barely anyone is simply right or wrong. Take Peter—completely insufferable, annoying, and kinda gross, but you can’t help but feel for him at times. Then go back to loathing him next page. Or Ivan who you’ll want to protect at all costs but occasionally punch in the face and deservedly so. Naomi who’s both a total cunt but also a victim. And so on.

Like real (normal) people they all have faults, which makes it simultaneously mundane and fascinating.
