Disability Visibility: First-Person Stories from the Twenty-First Century by Alice Wong
5.0
An absolute stunner of a book that has me reassessing the ways I look at inclusion, justice, and disability rights. When we say “Black lives matter,” we must also remember that disabled Black lives matter. When we fight for environmental policies, we must remember that disabled people will be the ones most affected by climate change. When we think about prison reform, we must center the experiences of disabled inmates (there is an essay from a Deaf person who was in prison and had no interpreter to communicate with anyone. How horrifying and dehumanizing!) This book is a must-read.
