The Husbands by Holly Gramazio

funny mysterious reflective medium-paced

3.5

This book, like its husbands, was charming but mostly overstayed its welcome. I loved the first third-ish, the tone was funny and engaging and I loved the premise. But then we just kept rolling through husbands and it got super old. And some of the “breaks” in husband action led to some incredibly strange decision making from Lauren (and some disparaging comments about Denver, which is a thing I can do but this author cannot!!!). I liked how it resolved at the very end, but I started actively not enjoying this book around the 200 page mark. Mostly I realized that I just didn’t really know who Lauren was as a person, why she acted the way she did, and why she was in this husband loop to begin with (or I guess why she reacted to things the way she did specifically, it didn’t seem like she was particularly stressed about being married or not beforehand). I think if we had gotten to know Lauren a bit more before the husband chaos and then had less husbands that we actually spent time with, this would have been a stronger book.
