Empire of Pain: The Secret History of the Sackler Dynasty by Patrick Radden Keefe

this was so good omg- i went into this knowing absolutely nothing about the sackler dynasty or the opioid crisis, but this book explained it in such an interesting and compelling way that i was sucked in from the very first chapter. the way that keefe unpacked the generations of the sacklers and their backstory and how they changed everything in terms of opioid prescription drugs was literally mind blowing. it's genuinely so creepy how the sacklers repeatedly denied any faults or wrongdoings when they were literally the reason why millions of people died of addiction to the drug that they created and marketed so heavily and aggressively even when they KNEW what they were marketing was false. it's a thrilling novel about the mass marketing of oxycontin and how that translated into so much greed and corruption from purdue pharma. i would definitely recommend this book, especially if you're interested in psychology, law, or science.
