Comedy Book: How Comedy Conquered Culture–and the Magic That Makes It Work by Jesse David Fox

4.0

A very smart and deeply considered meditation on modern (read the last 10 years or so) standup comedy. Its nuanced takes on “little bad boys” and the effects of the internet and COVID on standup may be the best takes yet. It does seem at times too ponderous on some goofiness and exposes the danger of being earnest on material so irreverent. But this is THE book to read to understand comedy today.
