So this was a reread for me after first reading it back in 2022 for a book club! And I did not want to read it at all when my book club picked it! And then I promptly read it and fell madly in love with the villianous heroine and I loved it even more in this reread! I’m obsessed with the way it addresses patriarchy, explores sexuality and culture in a futuristic China whilst utilising parts of Chinese history such as foot binding and gender values. Honestly, if you’re not normally a sci-fi fantasy person but love a feminist story line, give this a go and if you hate it don’t bother telling me because I’m too in love. 🙊
