The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky

3.0

Well Dostoevsky, it isn’t you, it’s me. And I do get it that this is a clever book, I get it. But I just didn’t like it. I felt preached too, and the characters in the book didn’t feel like rounded characters, they were ideas, not people. I know that is what Dostoyevsky was doing, but I felt manipulated.
I felt, all the way through, that I wasn’t being given room to think. There was no doubt about what was being said. I prefer books where you are given ideas on the slant and can think them through… where several ideas compete.. Dostoyevsky doesn’t allow for that, he has to have the ideas.

Anyway, I just didn’t enjoy this. But I gave it three stars because I do see what he was doing, it just didn’t do it for me
