Betting On You by Lynn Painter
3.0
This YA novel primarily explores the impact of divorce on a teenager, a topic that personally didn’t resonate with me as a reader. The female main character’s coping mechanisms felt very immature, whereas an open and heartfelt discussion with her mother could have added more depth and realism to the story.
As for the male main character , he was insufferable at first. However, his development and redeemable qualities later on helped balance the story and made the reading experience more enjoyable.
This was my first book by Lynn Painter, and although I may not be the target audience, I appreciated her writing style. It’s effective without being simplistic, which makes me interested in exploring her other works despite my reservations about this particular story.
