A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas
4.0
Not as entertaining a read as the OG trilogy, but still good in its own right.
We get little snippets of everyone’s lives in the aftermath of the battle with Hybern. Velaris is still healing, the peace between courts is tenuous at best.
This book, novella if you can consider this one, is based around the winter solstice. Feyre learns what it means to be High Lady around this holiday. How to juggle what she wants to do, what her people and her family expect of her, and how she feels about giving gifts just for the sake of giving.
Elain isn’t as quiet and withdrawn as she was in Wings and Ruin, but she still has her moments as she’s adjusting to her new life still.
The solstice celebration really made me feel for Nesta. How she stayed there for the whole night, I have no idea… this just barely touched on her struggle that I know is prominent in her book.
Also- the mix of 1st person POV and 3rd… it was a little… odd… but I think helps prepare you for that switch between Feyre’s trilogy and Nesta’s story in Silver Flames. I’m thinking only Feyre’s will be told on 1st person- everyone else’s stories after SF would also be in 3rd person POV.
And one more thing… I am hoping Tamlin does get his story told one day. Redemption arc or not, I felt more heartbroken at his utter desolation rather than vindicated. Will he learn to forgive himself so he can move on and rebuild his court? I hope so.
