Set in a gothic mansion in Miami, the story unfolds as Carmen, having lost her parents in Havana, arrives at Marbrisa, the grand estate owned by her estranged sister, Carolina, and her husband, Asher Wyatt. Carmen's arrival at the mansion owned by her sister follows the earlier story of the mansion's original owners, Robert and Anna Barnes. The narrative shifts between the past and present, exploring the mansion's history and its secrets. As a reader who enjoys Cleeton's books focusing on Cuba, I found this one less captivating. The initial part was slow-paced, and the conclusion felt hurried.
