The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook

Great world building, both in the sense of having an interesting, fresh, well thought out works and in the sense of bringing you into the world in a way that's not too heavy handed or confusing.

With that said. Some complaints. It did feel like the end dragged. But I did finish it which is more than I can say for many other books. Also. The mmc was weirdly rapey. Weirdly because he was such a simp for her but at the same time definitely thought of her as a possession to essentially purchase. And there was some borderline, for me, "but I can tell you want this" going on that didn't feel viscerally wrong the way most SA does, it just seemed ... weird and kind of unpleasant. I can appreciate dubcon at times but this just was not working for me-- it didn't seem to match either of their characters.

Overall though-- thumbs up. Mina was a great character. Rhys was a great character. I enjoyed the side characters. Or was interesting to think about this alternate England.
