Nesta is way more interesting to read than Feyre. She is a deeply flawed character, that I’m not sure I fully learned to like despite her redemption arc, but definitely had a better defined personality. The thing is, I can appreciate her character development, and the book does a good job in my opinion at explaining her trauma and behaviour following the war, as well as her healing process. But I think it does not explain (or maybe I missed it????) the reasons why she was kind of an asshole even before the war, especially to Feyre. I know familiar relationships can be hard, but I wish I would have ended the book with a clearer idea of why she seemed to despise her sister so much during their childhood.
Cassian is definitely the best Love interest in the whole series so far. DEFINITELY not my type because I’m not into straight men like that, but I loved how sweet, patient and comforting he was to Nesta. Like the whole part in the mountain where she is feeling like she deserves nothing and scream cries from the pain and guilt she feels whenever someone shows they love her, and he just goes:
“I am going to tell you that you will get through it. That you will face all of this, and you will get through it. That these tears are good, Nesta. These tears mean you care. I am going to tell you that it is not too late, not for any of it. And I can’t tell you when, or how, but it will get better. What you feel, this guilt and pain and self-loathing—you will get through it. But only if you are willing to fight. Only if you are willing to face it, and embrace it, and walk through it, to emerge on the other side of it. And maybe you will still feel that tinge of pain, but there is another side. A better side…I’ve seen what you can do when you are willing to fight for the people you love. Why not apply that same bravery and loyalty to yourself?”
UMH?!?!?? Like I usually support the right of men to shut the fuck up but this had me CRYINGGG!!!
But what made this book so much better than the others to me was the focus on friendly and platonic love. It does not dismiss the importance of romantic love, but also send home how friendships, especially female friendships, is so important in a woman’s life. I did not have biological sisters, but the female friends who I met during my life have allowed me to learn what sisterhood feels like. Especially in my early twenties I learned the comfort and love that only these types of bonds can offer. These are the friendships that helped me heal, discover and bring out the best parts of me. The fact that the book ends with the three sisters walking away together, all three of them, was so important to me.
As Brittany Broski once said after having read this faerie smut book “life is to be enjoyed, and it is so much sweeter and richer when you are holding the hands of your sisters” 🥹😭🥹😭🥹😭💘
P.S. THERE BETTER BE NO ERIS REDEMPTION ARC IN THE NEXT BOOK, LET THAT MAN ROT
also what the fuck am I going to read not that this crazy fantasy enemy to lover smut experiment of mine is over?!?!?
