It’s strange, at one point I considered DNFing the book. I was about 20% in and I found the main character, James, to be a bit of a prig. But I persevered and ended up loving this book. There was so much to it — early medicine and the invention of surgery, the grotesque nature of operating “theatres” which were places of entertainment, body snatching, serial killers and a coming of age story. And that’s before you even consider the love story!

It was a great read and I wonder if there will be a sequel?
