Beneath the Sugar Sky by Seanan McGuire
5.0
Reread - this, like the rest of the series, is full of diversity and beautiful language.
Cora has always been fat, and it’s always been something she hated, until her door takes her to an underwater world where she finally fits in - and everything is perfect, until she’s returned to our world and finds herself at the school for Wayward Children
Now she’s back to how she’s always felt about herself because “day after day, she had learned that “fat” was another way to say “worthless, ugly, waste of space, unwanted, disgusting” She had started to believe them...what else was she supposed to do?” And on top of struggling with her self image and how she’s treated, a girl has just fallen out of the sky and needs her help. Along with Kade, Christopher, and Nadya, Cora sets off on a quest I loved seeing more of Kade and Christopher, and seeing how the worlds come together.
