this is not something i would ever say but i think the main character should have been white (i know i know shoot me right now) but so much of this book contains OVERT racism that the love interest just kind of brushes off and we as readers have to move on too because no one in the book fights against the issue. a white x white could have kept the liberal x conservative romance without having white people CONTINUALLY call the main character the n word and have the white love interest go “aw shucks they don’t know any better”
a book about racism is fine but i’m not going to give a high ranking to a book about racism that’s supposed to be a romance but involves the white love interest not standing up against racism but still getting the “happily ever after”
