Painful Love by T. Ashleigh, Addison Beck

5.0

The book title totally makes sense now I've read it. There is so much pain, physical and emotional and a lot of spilled blood. Book 1 didn't show much of the gang culture, this one is centred around it. Whaley is the gang leader. Previously, Bunky came across as Silas's friend who would always go too far, not worried about consequences. We learn how he came to be in the gang and things slot into place. Pain is one feeling he knows is real, it almost centres him. Like he doesn't understand any other feeling. This book is not an easy read, there are gang fights and lots of injuries and torturing. Whaley has hidden secrets too, he has experienced similar trauma to Bunky. It's shaped who they are and what they like. It takes a while for Bunky to wear Whaley down to let himself have Bunky. The intimacy is hot and has some elements of kink. I will admit I struggled reading the torture, but I understand it was necessary to show different sides to both Bunky and Whaley. Despite this being dark and possibly a bit dark for me, I can't get Bunky and Whaley out of my mind; making it a 5 star read. We've been promised a lighter read for Raid and Landon's story. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
