American Rapture by CJ Leede

4.0

If you have religious trauma and were raised in purity culture, you will love this. It truly had some beautiful things to say that made me tear up a few times. As far as viruses go this is such a unique idea. Obviously all the triggers here. The rest of the book wasn’t incredibly inventive and followed the typical outbreak narrative and timeline. I do think it was a bit too long and was cheesy at parts. I still really enjoyed it, but I didn’t find it scary and I did not get that really intense rush and reveal of the virus that you would expect at the beginning of an outbreak.
I do think the synopsis sets it up to be more lighthearted and camp, but it’s definitely dark and serious.
