Stations of the Tide by Michael Swanwick

adventurous funny mysterious medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? Plot
  • Strong character development? No
  • Loveable characters? No
  • Diverse cast of characters? It's complicated
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? No

4.0

Ideas enough to fuel a handful of short story collections, strung together with the light, toxic wit that defines Swanwick's work.  This might not be my favourite trip I've taken in his company but it was transformative all the same.
