More than anything, my heart really hurt for Suchi. This book made me delve deeper into Chinese history and I’m thankful for that.
I like how the author told their story from alternating timelines. Suchi’s moving forward and Haiwen’s moving backwards.
My one ick was Haiwen’s infidelity
. I get that it had to happen because they were who they were to each other but my moral high ground won’t let it slide.
Thank you to Karissa Chen for writing such a beautiful and well researched book. And to the narrators, Katharine Chin and Kenneth Lee, you did amazing!
