This was so chilling and startling and I LOVED it. It's about Gyre's physical, and then psychological, descent into a cave that has done nothing but kill people. The cave slowly comes alive around her, all while her handler, Em, tries to keep her grounded to the surface while urging her to keep descending further while keeping all the secrets as to WHY Gyre is down there in the first place.
My removal of the half-star really boils down to the pacing of the novel. There were a few times where I felt something went over too quickly, and times where it felt dragging and didn't move on quickly enough.
I've been easing myself into horror, and this sci-fi/horror mashup was PERFECT.
