This is the second Kristin Hannah I have read and it was very compelling. The characters, even with quite a large cast, we're not flat. This is a novel that explores all aspects of the Dust Bowl and Great Depression era. From dust storms to shantytowns to the Communist Movement, we get to see it all. Elsa and Loretta have to deal with their mom/daughter relationship while fighting poverty and other challenges.

The plot kept moving and the characters felt real.
