Secrets by Sapphire Knight
Did not finish book.
DNF @ 16% -- which sucks, b/c this was a friend rec. This book just starting pushing too many of my buttons. The characters felt very shallow and almost cartoon-like. The changes in emotions/personality were giving me whiplash -- so hard to follow and keep up with. And I am NOT a fan of dickish men, so my tolerance was too low for me to appreciate Luka/Tate as others might.
Things that bugged me more than they probably should have: 1) a guy says his name is Luka Masterson but you can call him Tate, and you don't even think (much less ask) why? The nickname makes no sense to me, and I couldn't let it go (ask my husband, he had a good laugh at me). 2) a girl, who appears to be hiding from an abusive ex and is supposedly paranoid enough to take morning classes so she's not out late at night, easily goes out with a girl she just met (whose friendship was frankly foisted upon her). 3) that same girl says she doesn't want to dress sexy tonight and draw attention to herself, so she settles on a little black dress with pink stilettos.
*sigh* So yeah, like I said, hit too many of my buttons.
