Full of tropes but also full of sassiness and very colorful swearing. It's all very high school but the sense of humor made that it's not super annoying. The main character keeps saying how powerful she is but then she's in a battle and only holds a shield so that's kinda weird. She's definitely very good at stuff and very lucky but ah well. I like how the building has a sense of humor also


2024: I really enjoyed this reread, the sense of humor and the relationship El has with her mom and how guarded she is to the outside world but still finds a way to become friends with Orion is lovely. In my first review I don't seem to like it as much as I remembered liking it when I picked it up to reread, how strange.
