4,5 stars. I already loved 'A Study in Emerald' as a short story. It is just a splendidly constructed tale which plays gloriously with the reader's assumptions. The star of this story is its twist. In the short story you see it coming halfway through, the graphic novel does a better job to hide it a little bit longer. I also loved the artwork and the atmosphere which fits perfectly to Gaiman's dark narrative. I'd say this graphic novel is an improvement to the original short story. I loved it!
