Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz

Dear sweet Odd cruises around a fictional suburb of Los Angeles unable to differentiate between the living and the dead. And he has to stop a mass shooting. What really got me were his parents. His father with a trust fund and affinity for damaged young girls. His mother a former damaged young girl who spent his youth toying with killing him. Oy. The end brought a tear to my eye.
