Dead Lake by Darcy Coates

5.0

I started and finished this book in about 2 hours - I wanted something nice and quick that I knew would hold my interest as I was feeling tired, Darcy Coates is my go to when I want to be guaranteed a good time, and I am so pleased!!

My top 3 things that made this book actually so perfect:
1. The setting - we got a cute cabin in the woods by a lake with morning mist *chefs kiss* wonderful. Beautiful enough that I understand why Sam is spending time there and is willing to give up cell service. (I’m an artist too and I also would like to go live in the woods disconnected from everyone to recharge creatively)

2. Fast paced and you get that spook factor from page one baby! The book is on the shorter end but Coates did a wonderful job of hitting you with scene after scene of spook factor and back story so you never feel like your waiting around for the next event. From the minute Sam wakes up in the morning till when she goes to bed things are going bump in the night (and in the day. Things also go bump in the day)

3. It’s got paranormal AND true crime! If you aren’t sure what you’re in the mood for, this is the best of both worlds! You get the spooky spook and also the creepy stalker stalk. Imma be real with y’all, I haven’t been satisfied with a book ending in awhile and this one had me audibly squealing and fist pumping the air.

3.5. Brandon. Sir, I’ll die for you.
