4.0

Two really good stories and two ok ones. Not a bad book all in all.

Rules of the game
I didn’t love this, mainly because of the secondhand embarrassment that gave me so much anxiety. It’s not bad, but you have to like the naive MC trope who is way out of his depth.

A Wine in Dreams
The writing alone in this story is worth 4 stars. Beautiful prose, and a mystery that leaves you wondering until the very end.

Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing
Far from the writing of the previous story, but the storyline is gripping enough to keep you engaged. And the father-daughter team is great.

The Ride
I don’t care much for casino and gambling talk. All the card games terms and actions didn’t mean much to me. The triplets thing was funny, but that’s about it. I did like the cameos from characters of the previous stories, but that’s about it. Leaves me with the question as to when the blackout from the third story happened. At the time they were at the races, maybe? A little lacklustre in my opinion compared to stories 2 and 3.
