The Tyrant Alpha's Rejected Mate by Cate C. Wells
4.0
This was the second Cate C. Wells book I’ve read recently and it was a fun one!
I admittedly chose it for the grovel and it did not disappoint. My only complaint was that I would have liked the rejection in the beginning to be even harsher, maybe even cruel?
The FMC (Una) was one of those characters that seems deceptively weak. She had a bad leg and her wolf was small, but she had a lot of inner strength and was able to hold her own against the MMC (Killian). She makes him work for it. I liked Killian’s evolution from alpha assh*le to simp for his mate.
I don’t read much shifter stuff so I don’t know how representative it was for the genre, but I found it interesting how the humans and wolves were one, yet separate. Like, there were times their wolves made choices they would not have made, or did things they didn’t necessarily understand. Sometimes the human had to fight against the instincts or wishes of their wolf counterpart—like when the Una’s wolf is lusting after Killian and she stubbornly struggles against it. It added an interesting dynamic.
Totally looking forward to the next in this series.
