Welp, from the title I think you can guess this is the five alarm fire side of the heat scale. This is lust at first sight, going straight into public sexual escapades that only ESCALATE INTENSELY. If I’d been wearing pearls, I would’ve clutched ‘em. That being said, the romance side of things is not non-existent. It’s an erotic punk fairytale, and you have to suspend your disbelief, but at the end of the day (and the mess and the shock and awe) it’s ultimately sweet, almost a Cinderella story. This also had a lovely line that stuck with me: “If I’d seen him in a magazine I would have cut out the picture and stuck it to my wall.”
Update April 2024: I'm increasing my rating to five stars; this just really did it for me. Everything I said still stands, if you can't suspend your disbelief for this instalove fairytale, I wouldn't necessarily recommend. I don't often click with instalove myself, but it just works for me in this instance.
This time, the sweetness that underpins the explicit scenes shone through even more. I highlighted additional passages this time around, as well. I have to say I'm a big big fan of anti-capitalist romances and this book is *chef's kiss* in that regard. (What is not chef's kiss is the photoshopped technicolor tattoos on the cover . . . but I understand it is hard for indie authors to get a cover that conveys the vibe of the book.)
Also, this is a great candidate for the Trans Rights Readathon.
