Enemies since childhood–‘Nat’ Burry & ‘Dre’ Hatchette–agree to an arranged marriage as a merger not only to protect business but also secrets. I love an unhinged, obsessed MMC with depth and Nat is perfectly part terror and part love sick puppy (plus an avid reader!), getting his “lick[s] back in sweat” from the bride who constantly challenges him and treats him as her equal. The early plot twist transformed this from a typical enemies to lovers romance to an adventure, but quite a few scenes felt like filler and the pacing dragged as a result. Overall, their story sweetly amplifies the notion that love is a choice and an action.
