Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
5.0
What a PHENOMENAL book! An amazing, natural, and FUNNY voice from our MC Simon, and a simple, straightforward plot that, surprisingly for a contemporary romance, includes quite an intriguing mystery. It was super refreshing to read a coming-out story where the MC's family and friends were extremely supportive and built a nurturing environment for the struggling protagonist.
There was such a believability to the relationships between Simon and his friends, and so many little moments and feelings that even I have felt with friends in the past. Life is complex and rarely straightforward, especially for teenagers. I feel that Becky Albertalli gets that in a way that many other authors miss out on. This story was so brutally honest and authentic, and ultimately just a happy, feel-good examination of what it means to be true to who you are, and to accept what you know to be true about yourself—and about the other people in your life.
Charming and unputdownable!
