For some reason I didn't realize this was YA so I was a little disappointed when I realized she was only 17 as I was super excited for a fun crimson peak like gothic romantasy, but the childish elements takes me out of it quite a bit.

I did enjoy the atmosphere in the beginning and felt like the mystery was vaguely interesting along with the brooding mysterious love interests. But my original disappointment had me putting the book down with no real intentions of picking it back up until a month later when I just wanted to listen to and audiobook to pass the time, and I had access to this one for a couple bucks on chirp so I found my spot and continued. Know what I was getting into the second time around did increase my enjoyment and although I still didn't love the book, I did have a good time.

It did end with a twist that i was really interested in seeing what direction it would go so I did jump into the second book pretty quickly.
