Jumpstart Your Writing in 30 Days: A Step-By-Step Guide to Becoming a More Productive Writer by Heather Kelly

5.0

I tried this book when I needed a big jumpstart for my writing. It hurt my brain to even think about working on my book after six months of not writing and having stopped at a very messy stage of revising.

I started in chapter 1 and I did every exercise and bonus activity all the way through to chapter 30--and it worked! The writer's voice is easy to read and encouraging and helped me to get into a more regular writing habit. The book is now a kind of toolbox of resources and ideas to turn to if I get off track.

I loved the TED talk recommendations and YouTube and podcast and websites—all the optional bonus activities. I loved the sense of accomplishment of finishing each chapter.

The book has a large scope, but a shallow scoop of each subject. It's a nice overview of a writing life.
I’ve read books about craft and been to conferences and talked with writer friends, but never felt like I got such a whole picture of writing as I did in this book. Why we write, fears, goals, resources for community, self-care, rewards, creating energy, brand, social media, fans, strengths and weaknesses, time and even money, core values—it creates a big picture of being a writer.

It made me think WHY am I writing. Made me understand my specific fears and how to work around them. Recommended for anyone who wants to write!
