This one didn’t hit as hard as the last one. I still enjoyed the romance and the banter between the two main characters. However, I felt like I still wanted more. Even though it was a slow buildup in the beginning I felt like it was rushed later on. Like once she forgave him everything was fine. I wanted a little more angst and a little more doubt between the main couple.

I really enjoyed more of the backstory and world building that we got in this book. It really helped fill in those gaps and Give the world more depth with the added history. I liked that we got to know more about Oraya’s past.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the political parts of this book. Which is quite shocking, because I am someone who tends to love political intrigue in fantasy novels. However, this one was just boring. I definitely wanted to see more of the secondary characters play a role in the political plot line. And I would’ve liked to see more from the villains.

Even though there is a lot of exciting events that happened at the end of the book, it did not have me at the edge of my seat, the way the first book it. Maybe because I saw a lot of it coming, but it just wasn’t as gripping as I hoped it would be.

I hear there is more coming from this series, and I will most likely continue to read this series. It was still very enjoyable I just felt it was a little long, there were a couple unnecessary chapters that threw off the pacing of the book and made certain parts of it a little boring and easy to put down.
